The base is my favorite part of doing makeup & the step I spend the most time on. When doing my own base makeup, I focus on creating a glowing complexion & an even skin tone with a natural looking texture & appearance.
Once I'm finished with my skincare, the fist step in my base makeup routine is to apply a liquid highlight to the high points of my face. Since my usual go-to has been discontinued, I spent this past year trying out products to replace it. One of those products is the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, which the brand describes as a "complexion booster" that functions as both a primer & a highlight. This product isn't particularly new, but it was new to me this year & I've made it a part of my daily base makeup routine. I use it as a primer & I like it for that glow-from-within look that it gives under my foundation. I also apply more of this at the end of my makeup routine as a cheekbone highlight. Sometimes, I wear it alone on days that I don't wear foundation or do a full face of makeup.
Another primer I tired this year & have been liking is the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer. I've never been much of a primer person, but I do like how dewy this product makes my skin look. I alternate between this & the Hollywood Flawless Filter as the second step of my base makeup routine.
After moisturizing & priming, I apply a thin layer of the Cover FX Natural Finish Foundation. I've been using this foundation on-and-off for several years, but I always come back to it because it provides the coverage that I want, without masking the appearance of my natural skin. I also love it's longevity & the way it wears throughout the day.
The fourth step in my base makeup routine is the most satisfying part, concealer. I use a concealer 1 shade lighter than my natural skin tone to create a highlighted effect & I apply it to my under eyes, the tops of my cheekbones, the center of my forehead, down the bridge of my nose & on the center of my chin. The concealer in my 2020 base makeup routine is the Cover FX Power Play Concealer. I am obsessed with this product because it gives me exactly what I'm looking for in a concealer, a build-able, crease-less formula with a lot of coverage.
Another product I've been using on-and-off for a while is the Becca Cosmetics Under Eye Brightening Corrector. Over 2020, I started using this product on top of my concealer instead of under & I love the results from using this technique. The product is a sheer, peach toned cream corrector with a dewy, light reflecting finish. I use a very small amount & warm the product on the back of my hand before applying it to my under eyes with my finger. I also wear this product on no-makeup days for fresh, awake looking under eyes.
Once I color-correct, I apply a powder bronzer and blush and that completes my base makeup routine! I've been using the Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk'r Instant Warmth bronzer on the daily for most of 2020 and the Bare Minerals Gen Nude Blushers have been a long-time favorite of mine.
